The DifferenceCKLA is not a traditional reading and language arts program and is much different than any program we have used in the past. In our last program, Journeys, students were taught a set of specific skills each lesson. These skills were embedded two stories and practiced through workbook pages, guided reading, and class discussions. Students were then given a test on the skills taught and story after each lesson.
CKLA is much different and you will not see weekly reading assessments on a skill or story. The Units are split into lessons which all connect to both reading and language arts curriculum. For example, our first unit is on personal narratives. Within the unit, we discuss character traits, cause and effect, and sensory details. We explore many examples of personal narratives and students write many of their own personal narrative paragraphs! :) CKLA also does not have a weekly spelling list or grammar skill. These are also embedded within the unit lessons. |
